FRONT Film Festival screens high-quality films in several towns across the Terres de l’Ebre region, focusing on works related to conflict, peace, and historical and democratic memory. The festival aims to encourage critical reflection.
Screenings are accompanied by introductions and panel discussions with experts, creating opportunities for dialogue around the stories and perspectives explored in the films. The project takes on particular significance in a region that experienced the Spanish Civil War with great intensity and where the legacy of the conflict remains deeply present.
From 6 to 14 November, Roquetes, Tortosa and Amposta (Terres de l'Ebre. Catalunya) will once again host the FRONT Film Festival, featuring around twenty fiction and documentary feature films and shorts exploring armed conflicts, violence, memory, identity, resistance, migration and gender inequality.
Highlights include Amílcar, by Miguel Eek, which opens the festival with a portrait of anti-colonial leader Amílcar Cabral; Rebel, by Anna M. Bofarull, about police violence during Catalonia’s 2017 independence referendum; My Dear Théo, by Alisa Kovalenko, an intimate account of the war in Ukraine; and Yrupẽ, by Candela Sotos, exploring Republican exile and Francoist repression. The programme also features a section dedicated to emerging Catalan-language cinema and a professional conference addressing the question: “How do we tell stories about conflict?”
