The Asian Film Festival. Barcelona (AFFBCN), an event specializing in Asian cinema, celebrates its fifth edition until November 12 in three main venues, Caixaforum, Cinemes Girona and Filmoteca de Catalunya, together with Casa Asia.
The program of the Asian Film Festival, distributed in six sections (Oficial, Panorama, Netpac, Discoveries, Special Section and Retrospective, dedicated to the Taiwanese filmmaker Hsiao Hsien-Hou), consists of 120 films produced in the last three years and from 25 countries different Asians. The most represented cinematographies are those of Iran, with ten titles, and Japan, South Korea and Kyrgyzstan, with nine each. Other countries with a presence in the sample are Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, China, Australia, Mongolia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, Vietnam and New Zealand .

“All the films of the festival come together to show a contemporary portrait of the different communities, peoples and Asian nations”, points out Menene Gras Balaguer, director of the contest and the Culture Department of Casa Asia, who underlines that the objective of the AFFBCN is to establish ” a place of encounter and intercultural dialogue “with the countries of the aforementioned continent.
